The Disappearance of Theresa Rideout
Theresa Rideout, 36, vanished with her dog, River, on September 2, 1994. Just over a week later, her boyfriend, Jack Barnett, checked into a motel and took his own life. Did Jack hold the key to her disappearance? With no body and no crime scene, the mystery of what happened to Theresa remains unsolved to this day.

Welcome to the third episode of
River City Mystery podcast.
20
00:00:48.200 –> 00:00:50.799
Speaker:
Thank you for joining me
tonight.
21
00:00:50.799 –> 00:00:53.979
Speaker:
We’re going to be looking into
the disappearance of Teresa a
22
00:00:53.979 –> 00:00:56.880
Speaker:
Rideout of Chandler, Indiana.
23
00:00:56.880 –> 00:01:01.850
Speaker:
We talked a little bit about her
in episode one four seasons, she
24
00:01:01.850 –> 00:01:06.450
Speaker:
was Jack Barnett’s fiancée slash
girlfriend, who ended up missing
25
00:01:06.450 –> 00:01:07.650
Speaker:
at the end of that episode.
26
00:01:07.650 –> 00:01:10.829
Speaker:
Investigators were hoping she
would show up at Jack Barnett’s
27
00:01:10.829 –> 00:01:13.209
Speaker:
funeral, but she never did.
28
00:01:13.209 –> 00:01:19.049
Speaker:
She never showed up, and she was
not heard from or seen since.
29
00:01:19.049 –> 00:01:20.650
Speaker:
There hasn’t been a whole lot
30
00:01:20.650 –> 00:01:22.090
Speaker:
written about this
31
00:01:22.090 –> 00:01:23.250
Speaker:
disappearance, there’s not a
32
00:01:23.250 –> 00:01:24.409
Speaker:
whole lot of information on the
33
00:01:24.409 –> 00:01:25.769
Speaker:
internet.
34
00:01:25.769 –> 00:01:27.129
Speaker:
As a matter of fact, when I
35
00:01:27.129 –> 00:01:28.730
Speaker:
started looking into this case
36
00:01:28.730 –> 00:01:31.129
Speaker:
several years ago, that’s what
37
00:01:31.129 –> 00:01:32.849
Speaker:
caught my attention with this
38
00:01:32.849 –> 00:01:34.129
Speaker:
particular case.
39
00:01:36.489 –> 00:01:39.170
Speaker:
I first heard about the story a
few years ago, when I was
40
00:01:39.170 –> 00:01:42.609
Speaker:
looking through one of the
Evansville Courier press stories
41
00:01:42.609 –> 00:01:44.969
Speaker:
about cold case files.
42
00:01:44.969 –> 00:01:47.489
Speaker:
Teresa’s case information was
43
00:01:47.489 –> 00:01:49.230
Speaker:
one of the few cases mentioned
44
00:01:49.230 –> 00:01:49.689
Speaker:
on there.
45
00:01:49.689 –> 00:01:52.569
Speaker:
So I did a little background
search to to see what I could
46
00:01:52.569 –> 00:01:54.530
Speaker:
find out about it.
47
00:01:54.530 –> 00:01:58.209
Speaker:
And there was just a remarkable
lack of information about this
48
00:01:58.209 –> 00:02:02.310
Speaker:
particular case, about Teresa,
there was almost nothing.
49
00:02:02.310 –> 00:02:05.629
Speaker:
The Indiana State Police
website, which I’ve got a link
50
00:02:05.629 –> 00:02:06.629
Speaker:
in the show notes.
51
00:02:06.629 –> 00:02:07.870
Speaker:
If you go to River city mystery
52
00:02:07.870 –> 00:02:09.430
Speaker:
dot com slash three, I’ll have a
53
00:02:09.430 –> 00:02:12.069
Speaker:
link to that particular Indiana
54
00:02:12.069 –> 00:02:14.810
Speaker:
State Police post, but it still
55
00:02:14.810 –> 00:02:15.830
Speaker:
has her name spelled
56
00:02:15.830 –> 00:02:16.590
Speaker:
incorrectly.
57
00:02:16.590 –> 00:02:20.150
Speaker:
It’s, um, that’s not the
spelling of Teresa.
58
00:02:20.150 –> 00:02:24.229
Speaker:
There’s no photo of the missing
person, which you think they
59
00:02:24.229 –> 00:02:28.310
Speaker:
could have found a, some kind of
photo or drawing or sketch of
60
00:02:28.310 –> 00:02:30.270
Speaker:
the missing person.
61
00:02:30.270 –> 00:02:31.550
Speaker:
The National Missing and
62
00:02:31.550 –> 00:02:33.590
Speaker:
Unidentified Persons System,
63
00:02:33.590 –> 00:02:35.469
Speaker:
also known as Namus, has a very
64
00:02:35.469 –> 00:02:36.270
Speaker:
similar listing.
65
00:02:36.270 –> 00:02:37.310
Speaker:
It looks like they’re.
66
00:02:37.310 –> 00:02:39.069
Speaker:
Those listings are connected.
67
00:02:39.069 –> 00:02:41.669
Speaker:
Also, no photo of the missing
person.
68
00:02:42.669 –> 00:02:47.509
Speaker:
Just very, very short details on
what happened.
69
00:02:47.509 –> 00:02:50.349
Speaker:
Um, it literally says, um.
70
00:02:50.349 –> 00:02:53.710
Speaker:
On September eleventh, nineteen
ninety four, Teresa Rideout was
71
00:02:53.710 –> 00:02:55.909
Speaker:
reported missing by a friend.
72
00:02:55.909 –> 00:02:57.750
Speaker:
She’s never been located.
73
00:02:57.750 –> 00:03:00.080
Speaker:
It is suspected that foul play
could have caused her
74
00:03:00.080 –> 00:03:04.840
Speaker:
disappearance, and that is the
end of the description of what
75
00:03:04.840 –> 00:03:08.120
Speaker:
may have happened to Teresa in
nineteen ninety four.
76
00:03:08.120 –> 00:03:12.080
Speaker:
Normally when a person is
missing, they have family and
77
00:03:12.080 –> 00:03:13.400
Speaker:
friends who kind of.
78
00:03:13.400 –> 00:03:16.120
Speaker:
There’s always there’s usually
someone who can kind of step up
79
00:03:16.120 –> 00:03:19.879
Speaker:
and be that point person who’s
always keeping everybody on, on
80
00:03:19.879 –> 00:03:24.900
Speaker:
task and looking and looking
and, and trying to dig into all
81
00:03:24.900 –> 00:03:27.199
Speaker:
of the details of the case.
82
00:03:28.199 –> 00:03:31.439
Speaker:
As I did my research, I found
83
00:03:31.439 –> 00:03:33.000
Speaker:
out that Teresa really didn’t
84
00:03:33.000 –> 00:03:35.719
Speaker:
have many people in her life
85
00:03:35.719 –> 00:03:38.680
Speaker:
that were dependable, especially
86
00:03:38.680 –> 00:03:39.240
Speaker:
family.
87
00:03:39.240 –> 00:03:41.680
Speaker:
Her family was basically out of
the picture.
88
00:03:42.800 –> 00:03:48.680
Speaker:
I had to really struggle to find
information on even who she was
89
00:03:48.680 –> 00:03:52.879
Speaker:
or where she was from and what
kind of history she had, and I
90
00:03:52.879 –> 00:03:54.919
Speaker:
knew it was going to be tough to
get that information.
91
00:03:54.919 –> 00:03:59.699
Speaker:
So I actually set up an ancestry
dot com account, and I was
92
00:03:59.699 –> 00:04:02.500
Speaker:
trying to dig and find out who
her connections were.
93
00:04:02.500 –> 00:04:02.979
Speaker:
Was she.
94
00:04:02.979 –> 00:04:04.659
Speaker:
Did she have any siblings?
95
00:04:04.659 –> 00:04:05.740
Speaker:
Uh, children.
96
00:04:05.740 –> 00:04:07.300
Speaker:
Was she married?
97
00:04:07.300 –> 00:04:09.340
Speaker:
Uh, because none of that
information was available.
98
00:04:09.340 –> 00:04:11.979
Speaker:
On any of the, um, in any of the
99
00:04:11.979 –> 00:04:13.259
Speaker:
news articles that I was able to
100
00:04:13.259 –> 00:04:14.419
Speaker:
find.
101
00:04:14.419 –> 00:04:15.900
Speaker:
And I was able to find out a
little.
102
00:04:15.900 –> 00:04:18.740
Speaker:
Bit about Teresa’s family life.
103
00:04:18.740 –> 00:04:20.019
Speaker:
She had a mother who died when
104
00:04:20.019 –> 00:04:22.579
Speaker:
she was only six years old, and
105
00:04:22.579 –> 00:04:25.199
Speaker:
her father died when she was
106
00:04:25.199 –> 00:04:26.180
Speaker:
seventeen.
107
00:04:26.180 –> 00:04:30.060
Speaker:
She had no siblings, and she
ended up going to live with her
108
00:04:30.060 –> 00:04:32.980
Speaker:
aunt and cousins in Kentucky.
109
00:04:32.980 –> 00:04:36.100
Speaker:
Shortly following the passing of
her mother.
110
00:04:36.100 –> 00:04:37.740
Speaker:
Not long after her father passed
111
00:04:37.740 –> 00:04:39.420
Speaker:
away, Lisa married Michael
112
00:04:39.420 –> 00:04:40.699
Speaker:
Rideout.
113
00:04:40.699 –> 00:04:43.019
Speaker:
They lived together in
Henderson, Kentucky, and they
114
00:04:43.019 –> 00:04:44.180
Speaker:
had one son together.
115
00:04:44.180 –> 00:04:46.740
Speaker:
In June of nineteen eighty, I
116
00:04:46.740 –> 00:04:48.019
Speaker:
was able to connect with one of
117
00:04:48.019 –> 00:04:50.740
Speaker:
Michael Rideout’s relatives on
118
00:04:50.740 –> 00:04:52.379
Speaker:
ancestry dot com to ask if she
119
00:04:52.379 –> 00:04:53.379
Speaker:
could provide me with any
120
00:04:53.379 –> 00:04:55.220
Speaker:
information on Teresa or the
121
00:04:55.220 –> 00:04:57.269
Speaker:
disappearance or any kind of
122
00:04:57.269 –> 00:05:00.430
Speaker:
family story that she may be
123
00:05:00.430 –> 00:05:02.790
Speaker:
able to provide to help me do my
124
00:05:02.790 –> 00:05:04.189
Speaker:
research.
125
00:05:04.189 –> 00:05:05.949
Speaker:
And she responded, she did
126
00:05:05.949 –> 00:05:07.350
Speaker:
respond, and she said, that’s
127
00:05:07.350 –> 00:05:10.069
Speaker:
basically a big family mystery
128
00:05:10.069 –> 00:05:11.350
Speaker:
that nobody really knows what
129
00:05:11.350 –> 00:05:12.750
Speaker:
happened.
130
00:05:12.750 –> 00:05:17.069
Speaker:
She was not aware that there was
any sort of foul play.
131
00:05:17.069 –> 00:05:22.670
Speaker:
She said that Theresa was known
to have loved the river.
132
00:05:22.670 –> 00:05:23.629
Speaker:
They went to the river.
133
00:05:23.629 –> 00:05:28.750
Speaker:
She and Jack Barnett went to the
river all the time.
134
00:05:28.750 –> 00:05:33.149
Speaker:
Went along with Theresa’s dog
River, who was named River.
135
00:05:33.149 –> 00:05:36.269
Speaker:
The belief of that side of the
family which.
136
00:05:36.269 –> 00:05:40.389
Speaker:
This was Theresa’s first
husband’s family.
137
00:05:40.389 –> 00:05:42.310
Speaker:
The belief is that she drowned.
138
00:05:42.310 –> 00:05:43.470
Speaker:
They just think she drowned in
139
00:05:43.470 –> 00:05:45.629
Speaker:
the river and that there was no
140
00:05:45.629 –> 00:05:46.310
Speaker:
foul play.
141
00:05:46.310 –> 00:05:48.709
Speaker:
And she may have just drowned.
142
00:05:48.709 –> 00:05:52.009
Speaker:
According to this person that I
spoke with on ancestry dot com,
143
00:05:52.009 –> 00:05:54.269
Speaker:
Theresa kept to herself.
144
00:05:54.269 –> 00:05:55.839
Speaker:
She really didn’t have very
145
00:05:55.839 –> 00:05:57.920
Speaker:
close connections with family or
146
00:05:57.920 –> 00:05:59.360
Speaker:
many others.
147
00:05:59.360 –> 00:06:00.879
Speaker:
She mentioned that her son,
148
00:06:00.879 –> 00:06:03.740
Speaker:
Matt, had to go to court to
149
00:06:03.740 –> 00:06:06.040
Speaker:
declare his mother dead in order
150
00:06:06.040 –> 00:06:07.120
Speaker:
to collect on an insurance
151
00:06:07.120 –> 00:06:08.000
Speaker:
policy.
152
00:06:08.000 –> 00:06:09.519
Speaker:
So on August twelve, two
153
00:06:09.519 –> 00:06:10.639
Speaker:
thousand and two, a death
154
00:06:10.639 –> 00:06:11.959
Speaker:
certificate was generated for
155
00:06:11.959 –> 00:06:14.439
Speaker:
Teresa Rideout, and the death
156
00:06:14.439 –> 00:06:16.279
Speaker:
certificate states that she is
157
00:06:16.279 –> 00:06:17.160
Speaker:
presumed dead.
158
00:06:17.160 –> 00:06:20.519
Speaker:
Last seen September second,
nineteen ninety four.
159
00:06:21.600 –> 00:06:25.079
Speaker:
Teresa and Michael divorced in
the mid eighties, not long after
160
00:06:25.079 –> 00:06:27.319
Speaker:
their son Matt was born.
161
00:06:27.319 –> 00:06:32.560
Speaker:
It appears as though Teresa just
kind of took off and it was even
162
00:06:32.560 –> 00:06:36.399
Speaker:
paying regular payments, or that
she was ordered to pay some
163
00:06:36.399 –> 00:06:42.639
Speaker:
payments to Michael for his
caring for their child.
164
00:06:42.639 –> 00:06:45.600
Speaker:
And it doesn’t appear as though
she had much of a relationship
165
00:06:45.600 –> 00:06:48.399
Speaker:
with her son, Matt.
166
00:06:48.399 –> 00:06:52.720
Speaker:
Michael ended up remarrying,
and, uh, he ended up passing
167
00:06:52.720 –> 00:06:55.699
Speaker:
away from complications of
diabetes at the age of fifty
168
00:06:55.699 –> 00:07:01.860
Speaker:
two, and Theresa’s son Matt,
died in December of twenty
169
00:07:01.860 –> 00:07:04.620
Speaker:
eighteen in Las Vegas at the age
of thirty eight.
170
00:07:05.740 –> 00:07:07.500
Speaker:
And with Matt’s passing there,
171
00:07:07.500 –> 00:07:11.100
Speaker:
really, that was the family, um,
172
00:07:11.100 –> 00:07:13.259
Speaker:
that really had anything to do
173
00:07:13.259 –> 00:07:15.339
Speaker:
with Theresa.
174
00:07:15.339 –> 00:07:15.779
Speaker:
I’m not.
175
00:07:15.779 –> 00:07:17.980
Speaker:
It doesn’t appear as though Matt
had much of a relationship with
176
00:07:17.980 –> 00:07:21.899
Speaker:
her at all, but Michael was her
her former husband.
177
00:07:21.899 –> 00:07:25.980
Speaker:
He was no longer in the picture,
so we’re not sure where Theresa
178
00:07:25.980 –> 00:07:28.980
Speaker:
spent from the mid eighties to
the mid nineties.
179
00:07:28.980 –> 00:07:31.259
Speaker:
That’s not clear exactly.
180
00:07:31.259 –> 00:07:35.060
Speaker:
She likely bounced around from
maybe living with different
181
00:07:35.060 –> 00:07:39.819
Speaker:
coworkers or or people she she
might have known.
182
00:07:39.819 –> 00:07:40.699
Speaker:
That’s not known.
183
00:07:40.699 –> 00:07:44.379
Speaker:
But we do know that she
resurfaces in the mid nineties.
184
00:07:44.379 –> 00:07:48.420
Speaker:
In nineteen ninety four, she
starts dating Jack Barnett and
185
00:07:48.420 –> 00:07:52.459
Speaker:
according to a friend of theirs,
they had been living together in
186
00:07:52.459 –> 00:07:57.829
Speaker:
Newburgh for about three months
before the disappearance.
187
00:07:57.829 –> 00:08:01.949
Speaker:
So what exactly happened that
day that Teresa disappeared?
188
00:08:03.430 –> 00:08:06.029
Speaker:
We have to start off earlier in
the day.
189
00:08:06.029 –> 00:08:06.230
Speaker:
Now.
190
00:08:06.230 –> 00:08:08.550
Speaker:
She had a shift at Burger King.
191
00:08:08.550 –> 00:08:10.709
Speaker:
She had to be at Burger King in
192
00:08:10.709 –> 00:08:13.189
Speaker:
Evansville on Main Street at
193
00:08:13.189 –> 00:08:15.430
Speaker:
eleven a m, according to an
194
00:08:15.430 –> 00:08:17.310
Speaker:
Evansville Courier and Press
195
00:08:17.310 –> 00:08:18.509
Speaker:
article.
196
00:08:18.509 –> 00:08:21.870
Speaker:
Witnesses claim that Jack and
197
00:08:21.870 –> 00:08:24.629
Speaker:
Teresa were both spotted the
198
00:08:24.629 –> 00:08:26.029
Speaker:
morning of September second,
199
00:08:26.029 –> 00:08:27.829
Speaker:
nineteen ninety four at the
200
00:08:27.829 –> 00:08:31.889
Speaker:
American Legion Post forty four
201
00:08:31.889 –> 00:08:33.590
Speaker:
in Newburgh.
202
00:08:33.590 –> 00:08:37.830
Speaker:
Teresa had to be at work at
eleven a m, so they left the
203
00:08:37.830 –> 00:08:42.230
Speaker:
post, according to witnesses, at
ten thirty a m, so that she
204
00:08:42.230 –> 00:08:46.950
Speaker:
could be at her shift on time,
which it appears as though she
205
00:08:46.950 –> 00:08:49.629
Speaker:
did make it to work on time.
206
00:08:49.629 –> 00:08:51.190
Speaker:
A friend of Teresa’s had stated
207
00:08:51.190 –> 00:08:53.090
Speaker:
that Teresa’s car had had
208
00:08:53.090 –> 00:08:54.769
Speaker:
mechanical problems and was
209
00:08:54.769 –> 00:08:56.009
Speaker:
still parked at the house in
210
00:08:56.009 –> 00:08:57.009
Speaker:
Newburgh.
211
00:08:57.009 –> 00:09:00.889
Speaker:
So they were both riding around
in Jack’s red pickup truck.
212
00:09:01.929 –> 00:09:05.269
Speaker:
And this is a bit of a sticking
point with me that I can’t quite
213
00:09:05.269 –> 00:09:06.090
Speaker:
put my finger on.
214
00:09:06.090 –> 00:09:07.649
Speaker:
I can’t quite figure it out.
215
00:09:07.649 –> 00:09:12.450
Speaker:
And it’s always been kind of
like a festering in my head.
216
00:09:12.450 –> 00:09:19.909
Speaker:
Joe and Teresa drive from
Newburgh, from the post forty
217
00:09:19.909 –> 00:09:24.970
Speaker:
four to Burger King on Main
Street in Evansville so she
218
00:09:24.970 –> 00:09:25.809
Speaker:
could make her shift.
219
00:09:25.809 –> 00:09:28.250
Speaker:
And it’s unlikely that Jack
would have that.
220
00:09:28.250 –> 00:09:29.129
Speaker:
They would have gone to their
221
00:09:29.129 –> 00:09:31.269
Speaker:
Newburgh home first before going
222
00:09:31.269 –> 00:09:33.409
Speaker:
to Evansville, because there was
223
00:09:33.409 –> 00:09:34.570
Speaker:
no mention that she was late
224
00:09:34.570 –> 00:09:36.289
Speaker:
that day.
225
00:09:36.289 –> 00:09:38.889
Speaker:
That just wouldn’t make a lot of
sense.
226
00:09:38.889 –> 00:09:44.809
Speaker:
So Jack and Teresa drive to
Burger King.
227
00:09:44.809 –> 00:09:49.850
Speaker:
Teresa gets out of the truck,
goes to work.
228
00:09:49.850 –> 00:09:57.379
Speaker:
My question would be, did Jack
drive off and come back and pick
229
00:09:57.379 –> 00:10:00.460
Speaker:
her up at the end of her shift
because she worked a shift?
230
00:10:00.460 –> 00:10:06.659
Speaker:
According to her manager, she
was in a good mood and she said
231
00:10:06.659 –> 00:10:10.620
Speaker:
at the end of her shift, she,
um, she said, see you tomorrow.
232
00:10:10.620 –> 00:10:12.179
Speaker:
And that was it.
233
00:10:12.179 –> 00:10:14.000
Speaker:
There was nothing there was no
234
00:10:14.000 –> 00:10:15.379
Speaker:
weird vibe or anything like
235
00:10:15.379 –> 00:10:16.620
Speaker:
that.
236
00:10:16.620 –> 00:10:21.539
Speaker:
So my question about the truck
is she was seen driving when she
237
00:10:21.539 –> 00:10:22.899
Speaker:
left her shift.
238
00:10:22.899 –> 00:10:27.179
Speaker:
Her manager actually asked her
to drop the night deposit off.
239
00:10:27.179 –> 00:10:31.460
Speaker:
She hadn’t worked at Burger King
Burger King very long, but she
240
00:10:31.460 –> 00:10:35.820
Speaker:
had gained the trust of her
manager, and everyone seemed to
241
00:10:35.820 –> 00:10:39.460
Speaker:
think she was a good worker and
dependable enough so that they
242
00:10:39.460 –> 00:10:43.259
Speaker:
trusted her to take the deposit
with them, with her, so that she
243
00:10:43.259 –> 00:10:47.139
Speaker:
could drop that off at the
Citizens National Bank up the
244
00:10:47.139 –> 00:10:49.820
Speaker:
street, which she did.
245
00:10:49.820 –> 00:10:52.399
Speaker:
So she was seen driving off from
246
00:10:52.399 –> 00:10:53.840
Speaker:
work that night in the red
247
00:10:53.840 –> 00:10:54.960
Speaker:
pickup truck.
248
00:10:56.080 –> 00:11:00.200
Speaker:
If she did drive the red pickup
truck as she was leaving work
249
00:11:00.200 –> 00:11:04.080
Speaker:
that night, Jack Barnett had to
be in that truck.
250
00:11:04.080 –> 00:11:09.720
Speaker:
I think he would have come back
and picked her up unless she
251
00:11:09.720 –> 00:11:14.039
Speaker:
dropped him off at home before
driving to work, which I don’t.
252
00:11:14.039 –> 00:11:15.600
Speaker:
It doesn’t seem like she would
have done that.
253
00:11:15.600 –> 00:11:19.600
Speaker:
So when she left work, I believe
Jack would have been with her.
254
00:11:19.600 –> 00:11:20.679
Speaker:
That’s my theory.
255
00:11:20.679 –> 00:11:24.399
Speaker:
I don’t see that posted anywhere
in any articles, but I would
256
00:11:24.399 –> 00:11:25.840
Speaker:
love to see the.
257
00:11:25.840 –> 00:11:26.519
Speaker:
When she was making.
258
00:11:26.519 –> 00:11:28.279
Speaker:
She did make the night deposit
as well.
259
00:11:28.279 –> 00:11:28.679
Speaker:
She.
260
00:11:28.679 –> 00:11:33.440
Speaker:
That deposit was made and I
would love if they had like a
261
00:11:33.440 –> 00:11:36.879
Speaker:
camera surveillance to see who
was in that truck.
262
00:11:36.879 –> 00:11:37.960
Speaker:
Um, whenever they made that
263
00:11:37.960 –> 00:11:39.279
Speaker:
deposit, if there was something
264
00:11:39.279 –> 00:11:40.399
Speaker:
like that.
265
00:11:40.399 –> 00:11:42.879
Speaker:
One wonders if they didn’t get
266
00:11:42.879 –> 00:11:44.240
Speaker:
in some argument on the way home
267
00:11:44.240 –> 00:11:45.759
Speaker:
if it was both of them, maybe
268
00:11:45.759 –> 00:11:48.440
Speaker:
Jack, maybe Jack was walking up
269
00:11:48.440 –> 00:11:49.649
Speaker:
and down Main Street drinking
270
00:11:49.649 –> 00:11:50.730
Speaker:
all day.
271
00:11:50.730 –> 00:11:55.529
Speaker:
He. Maybe he was drinking early
that morning at the post and
272
00:11:55.529 –> 00:11:58.929
Speaker:
continued drinking that day on
Main Street while, uh, Teresa
273
00:11:58.929 –> 00:12:01.450
Speaker:
was at work waiting for her to
get off her shift.
274
00:12:01.450 –> 00:12:06.490
Speaker:
And maybe he was drunk and
something might have.
275
00:12:06.490 –> 00:12:07.409
Speaker:
They might have gotten into an
276
00:12:07.409 –> 00:12:08.649
Speaker:
argument or something on the way
277
00:12:08.649 –> 00:12:08.970
Speaker:
home.
278
00:12:08.970 –> 00:12:10.330
Speaker:
Who knows?
279
00:12:10.330 –> 00:12:11.809
Speaker:
To me, that’s a little strange
280
00:12:11.809 –> 00:12:15.409
Speaker:
that that it basically, I think
281
00:12:15.409 –> 00:12:17.330
Speaker:
Jack had to be in the truck with
282
00:12:17.330 –> 00:12:19.450
Speaker:
her when she drove off that
283
00:12:19.450 –> 00:12:19.730
Speaker:
night.
284
00:12:19.730 –> 00:12:21.850
Speaker:
That’s my theory.
285
00:12:21.850 –> 00:12:23.570
Speaker:
Just a theory.
286
00:12:23.570 –> 00:12:28.090
Speaker:
And for me, that means that
something could have happened on
287
00:12:28.090 –> 00:12:28.769
Speaker:
the way home.
288
00:12:28.769 –> 00:12:30.769
Speaker:
They could have gotten into a
big fight or something.
289
00:12:30.769 –> 00:12:33.730
Speaker:
And and I don’t know what that
290
00:12:33.730 –> 00:12:34.990
Speaker:
might have been about, but
291
00:12:34.990 –> 00:12:35.570
Speaker:
obviously.
292
00:12:35.570 –> 00:12:39.570
Speaker:
But it’s just a sticking point
with me when I was going through
293
00:12:39.570 –> 00:12:40.490
Speaker:
the details of this.
294
00:12:40.490 –> 00:12:40.970
Speaker:
It’s.
295
00:12:40.970 –> 00:12:46.169
Speaker:
So maybe you all have some ideas
on on if that’s insignificant or
296
00:12:46.169 –> 00:12:50.860
Speaker:
if there’s something to that
After Teresa left work that
297
00:12:50.860 –> 00:12:53.019
Speaker:
night made the night deposit.
298
00:12:53.019 –> 00:12:55.740
Speaker:
She was not seen again.
299
00:12:55.740 –> 00:12:57.139
Speaker:
She never.
300
00:12:57.139 –> 00:12:59.500
Speaker:
She never came back and picked
up her.
301
00:12:59.500 –> 00:13:02.779
Speaker:
She had some checks at a Burger
King that were unpicked.
302
00:13:02.779 –> 00:13:04.059
Speaker:
They were never picked up.
303
00:13:04.059 –> 00:13:07.580
Speaker:
So she also made the night
deposit.
304
00:13:07.580 –> 00:13:11.139
Speaker:
So if she was planning to make a
just a run for it and quit, it
305
00:13:11.139 –> 00:13:15.039
Speaker:
seems like you wouldn’t make
that night deposit if you kind
306
00:13:15.039 –> 00:13:17.580
Speaker:
of planned on running or
something like that.
307
00:13:17.580 –> 00:13:21.659
Speaker:
So she she didn’t pick up her
last checks.
308
00:13:21.659 –> 00:13:23.279
Speaker:
She just stopped showing up to
309
00:13:23.279 –> 00:13:25.000
Speaker:
work after September second,
310
00:13:25.000 –> 00:13:27.460
Speaker:
nineteen ninety four, which was
311
00:13:27.460 –> 00:13:29.700
Speaker:
very out of character for her
312
00:13:29.700 –> 00:13:32.059
Speaker:
based on comments from her
313
00:13:32.059 –> 00:13:32.580
Speaker:
manager.
314
00:13:32.580 –> 00:13:34.139
Speaker:
That was not like her.
315
00:13:34.139 –> 00:13:36.899
Speaker:
They said that she was
dependable and it would be
316
00:13:36.899 –> 00:13:41.779
Speaker:
unlike her for her not to call
in sick or to let her know that
317
00:13:41.779 –> 00:13:44.139
Speaker:
she wasn’t going to be there.
318
00:13:44.139 –> 00:13:46.940
Speaker:
Some of the articles talk about
319
00:13:46.940 –> 00:13:48.799
Speaker:
some of the friends that Teresa
320
00:13:48.799 –> 00:13:49.159
Speaker:
had.
321
00:13:49.159 –> 00:13:54.840
Speaker:
One of them was Carl Smith of
Newburgh, Indiana.
322
00:13:54.840 –> 00:14:01.000
Speaker:
Now, Carl was one of Teresa’s
closest friends in the area, and
323
00:14:01.000 –> 00:14:03.919
Speaker:
one of the articles Evans, one
of the Evansville Courier and
324
00:14:03.919 –> 00:14:08.720
Speaker:
Press articles, Carl Smith is
interviewed and he says that if
325
00:14:08.720 –> 00:14:11.759
Speaker:
she was in trouble, she would
come over and tell me about it.
326
00:14:11.759 –> 00:14:13.919
Speaker:
We were just really good
friends.
327
00:14:13.919 –> 00:14:17.559
Speaker:
I probably knew as much about
her private life as anyone.
328
00:14:17.559 –> 00:14:20.519
Speaker:
She maybe would leave on the
spur of the moment for a trip or
329
00:14:20.519 –> 00:14:24.279
Speaker:
something, but not without
letting someone know.
330
00:14:24.279 –> 00:14:28.519
Speaker:
And it’s unusual for her and the
dog to both be gone.
331
00:14:28.519 –> 00:14:32.919
Speaker:
The article goes on to say that
Carl checked the river camp that
332
00:14:32.919 –> 00:14:34.000
Speaker:
Jack Barnett owned.
333
00:14:34.000 –> 00:14:36.240
Speaker:
He actually went with Jack’s
334
00:14:36.240 –> 00:14:38.820
Speaker:
ex-wife to check out the river
335
00:14:38.820 –> 00:14:39.240
Speaker:
camp.
336
00:14:39.240 –> 00:14:42.960
Speaker:
Now, Jack and Teresa loved the
river.
337
00:14:42.960 –> 00:14:43.899
Speaker:
Apparently, according to
338
00:14:43.899 –> 00:14:45.360
Speaker:
everyone, they went there all
339
00:14:45.360 –> 00:14:45.639
Speaker:
the time.
340
00:14:45.639 –> 00:14:47.769
Speaker:
They loved hanging out by the
river.
341
00:14:47.769 –> 00:14:48.850
Speaker:
They.
342
00:14:48.850 –> 00:14:51.129
Speaker:
Teresa’s dog was named River.
343
00:14:51.129 –> 00:14:52.649
Speaker:
They just.
344
00:14:52.649 –> 00:14:53.009
Speaker:
That.
345
00:14:53.009 –> 00:14:54.250
Speaker:
That appeared to be their thing.
346
00:14:54.250 –> 00:14:58.889
Speaker:
They went there probably to
drink a lot and, uh, hang out.
347
00:14:58.889 –> 00:15:00.409
Speaker:
He had his river camp.
348
00:15:01.490 –> 00:15:03.529
Speaker:
Carl thought that that would be
a good place to go.
349
00:15:03.529 –> 00:15:07.789
Speaker:
Check to see where, you know, if
there’s anything amiss there or
350
00:15:07.789 –> 00:15:10.250
Speaker:
any evidence of anything weird.
351
00:15:10.250 –> 00:15:14.649
Speaker:
I actually did a, um, a property
search looking for what river
352
00:15:14.649 –> 00:15:16.289
Speaker:
camp he might have owned.
353
00:15:16.289 –> 00:15:18.850
Speaker:
And I, I looked through a lot of
354
00:15:18.850 –> 00:15:21.789
Speaker:
them along the Ohio River and,
355
00:15:21.789 –> 00:15:24.090
Speaker:
uh, Spencer Warrick Vanderburgh
356
00:15:24.090 –> 00:15:24.730
Speaker:
counties.
357
00:15:24.730 –> 00:15:29.289
Speaker:
And I could not find what river
camp he might have owned.
358
00:15:29.289 –> 00:15:30.570
Speaker:
Surely the police would have
359
00:15:30.570 –> 00:15:32.149
Speaker:
looked in that particular area,
360
00:15:32.149 –> 00:15:32.970
Speaker:
because that would be an
361
00:15:32.970 –> 00:15:33.289
Speaker:
interest.
362
00:15:33.289 –> 00:15:36.250
Speaker:
That would be a, a place to to
hide a body.
363
00:15:36.250 –> 00:15:38.929
Speaker:
If you were going to, I suppose
you would be very comfortable
364
00:15:38.929 –> 00:15:42.929
Speaker:
and familiar with that area, and
you would know the locations
365
00:15:42.929 –> 00:15:47.389
Speaker:
that might be easily overlooked
if the police went there and
366
00:15:47.389 –> 00:15:50.509
Speaker:
looked, which I’m sure it seems
like they would have.
367
00:15:50.509 –> 00:15:51.470
Speaker:
Seems like they would have found
368
00:15:51.470 –> 00:15:52.870
Speaker:
something if if something was
369
00:15:52.870 –> 00:15:54.350
Speaker:
there.
370
00:15:54.350 –> 00:15:55.789
Speaker:
Carl said that they didn’t see
371
00:15:55.789 –> 00:15:58.230
Speaker:
anything unusual when they went
372
00:15:58.230 –> 00:15:59.669
Speaker:
there.
373
00:15:59.669 –> 00:16:01.470
Speaker:
Uh, he goes on to say that, uh,
374
00:16:01.470 –> 00:16:02.690
Speaker:
he talked to Jack Barnett
375
00:16:02.690 –> 00:16:03.230
Speaker:
recently.
376
00:16:03.230 –> 00:16:04.909
Speaker:
He said, I talked to him
377
00:16:04.909 –> 00:16:06.429
Speaker:
recently and they had plans for
378
00:16:06.429 –> 00:16:07.509
Speaker:
the future and seemed to be
379
00:16:07.509 –> 00:16:08.789
Speaker:
doing fine.
380
00:16:08.789 –> 00:16:10.350
Speaker:
He said I was tickled to death
381
00:16:10.350 –> 00:16:11.669
Speaker:
that she found somebody like
382
00:16:11.669 –> 00:16:13.110
Speaker:
him.
383
00:16:13.110 –> 00:16:14.230
Speaker:
It just doesn’t add up.
384
00:16:14.230 –> 00:16:18.110
Speaker:
Whatever happened to something
that happened very suddenly?
385
00:16:18.110 –> 00:16:20.149
Speaker:
So Carl, who was the closest
386
00:16:20.149 –> 00:16:22.549
Speaker:
person to Theresa, had he seemed
387
00:16:22.549 –> 00:16:25.190
Speaker:
like he was just kind of taken
388
00:16:25.190 –> 00:16:26.750
Speaker:
by surprise that all of this had
389
00:16:26.750 –> 00:16:28.309
Speaker:
happened.
390
00:16:28.309 –> 00:16:32.509
Speaker:
He didn’t seem to indicate that
there was any abuse or anything
391
00:16:32.509 –> 00:16:37.470
Speaker:
like that going on that would
indicate that Theresa would have
392
00:16:37.470 –> 00:16:41.190
Speaker:
been in harm’s way a few days
after September second.
393
00:16:41.190 –> 00:16:45.000
Speaker:
This would be on September six,
nineteen ninety four.
394
00:16:45.000 –> 00:16:46.919
Speaker:
Gail Chapman, who was a friend
395
00:16:46.919 –> 00:16:49.419
Speaker:
of Theresa’s who also worked at
396
00:16:49.419 –> 00:16:52.240
Speaker:
Don and Donna’s sports Bar,
397
00:16:52.240 –> 00:16:53.879
Speaker:
claims that a bartender who
398
00:16:53.879 –> 00:16:56.440
Speaker:
worked at Don and Donna’s sports
399
00:16:56.440 –> 00:16:59.440
Speaker:
bar told her that Jack Barnett
400
00:16:59.440 –> 00:17:01.639
Speaker:
came into the bar that day on
401
00:17:01.639 –> 00:17:03.559
Speaker:
September sixth.
402
00:17:03.559 –> 00:17:04.839
Speaker:
She said that Jack made no
403
00:17:04.839 –> 00:17:06.279
Speaker:
mention of Miss Rideout’s
404
00:17:06.279 –> 00:17:09.079
Speaker:
whereabouts to the bartender or
405
00:17:09.079 –> 00:17:11.880
Speaker:
to anyone at the bar if
406
00:17:11.880 –> 00:17:13.880
Speaker:
something nefarious had
407
00:17:13.880 –> 00:17:14.440
Speaker:
happened.
408
00:17:14.440 –> 00:17:19.920
Speaker:
On September second, Jack, who
you would think may have had
409
00:17:19.920 –> 00:17:23.599
Speaker:
something to do with her
disappearance or murder or
410
00:17:23.599 –> 00:17:28.799
Speaker:
whatever, had it all together
enough to be able to go to Don
411
00:17:28.799 –> 00:17:33.640
Speaker:
and Donna’s bar and sit there
and calmly have a drink and eat
412
00:17:33.640 –> 00:17:37.059
Speaker:
dinner or whatever he was doing
there without mentioning
413
00:17:37.059 –> 00:17:41.079
Speaker:
anything about Theresa, and
apparently didn’t appear off or
414
00:17:41.079 –> 00:17:43.079
Speaker:
anything like that.
415
00:17:43.079 –> 00:17:45.410
Speaker:
And as I discussed in the first
416
00:17:45.410 –> 00:17:47.970
Speaker:
episode, Four Seasons on
417
00:17:47.970 –> 00:17:50.069
Speaker:
September tenth, nineteen ninety
418
00:17:50.069 –> 00:17:50.250
Speaker:
four.
419
00:17:50.250 –> 00:17:54.089
Speaker:
So several days later, Jack
Barnett checks himself into a
420
00:17:54.089 –> 00:17:59.930
Speaker:
motel in Mount Vernon, Indiana,
and proceeds to shoot himself in
421
00:17:59.930 –> 00:18:05.170
Speaker:
the head after leaving a suicide
note to his daughter, making no
422
00:18:05.170 –> 00:18:08.970
Speaker:
mention of anything about
Theresa in this note.
423
00:18:08.970 –> 00:18:11.509
Speaker:
According to Jack Barnett’s
424
00:18:11.509 –> 00:18:14.109
Speaker:
ex-wife and other friends of
425
00:18:14.109 –> 00:18:16.589
Speaker:
theirs who checked out the home,
426
00:18:16.589 –> 00:18:17.650
Speaker:
there didn’t appear to be
427
00:18:17.650 –> 00:18:19.589
Speaker:
anything missing from the home,
428
00:18:19.589 –> 00:18:22.890
Speaker:
and there was no body found in
429
00:18:22.890 –> 00:18:24.049
Speaker:
the home or there was no
430
00:18:24.049 –> 00:18:25.309
Speaker:
evidence of any sort of
431
00:18:25.309 –> 00:18:26.569
Speaker:
struggle.
432
00:18:26.569 –> 00:18:30.809
Speaker:
The only thing missing from the
home was Theresa’s dog River.
433
00:18:30.809 –> 00:18:33.730
Speaker:
Now, I do have a couple of
theories about what may have
434
00:18:33.730 –> 00:18:36.009
Speaker:
happened to Theresa, and they’re
all just theories.
435
00:18:36.009 –> 00:18:39.369
Speaker:
The first one is the obvious,
and I think this is what the
436
00:18:39.369 –> 00:18:40.569
Speaker:
investigators think happened.
437
00:18:40.569 –> 00:18:45.049
Speaker:
And I think that’s why there’s
little effort going into finding
438
00:18:45.049 –> 00:18:46.269
Speaker:
the truth here.
439
00:18:46.269 –> 00:18:50.150
Speaker:
Um. Is that Jack just snapped
one night and killed her.
440
00:18:51.470 –> 00:18:54.269
Speaker:
HID the body, killed the dog,
hid it, hid the body.
441
00:18:54.269 –> 00:18:56.869
Speaker:
Probably at the same place or
whatever.
442
00:18:56.869 –> 00:18:59.509
Speaker:
Dumped him in the river or
whatever he did.
443
00:18:59.509 –> 00:19:00.470
Speaker:
End of story.
444
00:19:00.470 –> 00:19:03.589
Speaker:
Kills himself a week later.
445
00:19:03.589 –> 00:19:07.470
Speaker:
And honestly, that that’s
probably the most likely story.
446
00:19:08.670 –> 00:19:10.710
Speaker:
There are other theories,
though.
447
00:19:10.710 –> 00:19:13.710
Speaker:
Another theory that has been
448
00:19:13.710 –> 00:19:16.009
Speaker:
rattling around in my head is I
449
00:19:16.009 –> 00:19:17.509
Speaker:
know from talking to people and
450
00:19:17.509 –> 00:19:17.869
Speaker:
from.
451
00:19:17.869 –> 00:19:21.789
Speaker:
There are some articles that
mention that it’s possible that
452
00:19:21.789 –> 00:19:25.549
Speaker:
Theresa and Jack were involved
in the drug trade.
453
00:19:25.549 –> 00:19:27.009
Speaker:
They did have some shady
454
00:19:27.009 –> 00:19:29.529
Speaker:
associates and maybe some shady
455
00:19:29.529 –> 00:19:31.190
Speaker:
dealings.
456
00:19:31.190 –> 00:19:36.630
Speaker:
Maybe they owed money to one of
these shady characters.
457
00:19:36.630 –> 00:19:41.134
Speaker:
Maybe threats were made against
Theresa and the dog, and maybe
458
00:19:41.134 –> 00:19:43.599
Speaker:
somebody followed through on it.
459
00:19:43.599 –> 00:19:46.200
Speaker:
Jack hangs around for a week
460
00:19:46.200 –> 00:19:47.440
Speaker:
because he thinks maybe
461
00:19:47.440 –> 00:19:49.400
Speaker:
someone’s calling a bluff or
462
00:19:49.400 –> 00:19:50.119
Speaker:
something.
463
00:19:50.119 –> 00:19:54.640
Speaker:
And when he finds out it wasn’t
a bluff, he kills himself.
464
00:19:54.640 –> 00:19:55.920
Speaker:
Or maybe he.
465
00:19:55.920 –> 00:20:01.039
Speaker:
Maybe he thinks that she ran off
with one of these associates.
466
00:20:01.039 –> 00:20:03.640
Speaker:
And after he loses contact with
467
00:20:03.640 –> 00:20:05.920
Speaker:
her for a week, he realizes that
468
00:20:05.920 –> 00:20:07.740
Speaker:
either she’s dead or she’s run
469
00:20:07.740 –> 00:20:09.440
Speaker:
off with somebody, he kills
470
00:20:09.440 –> 00:20:11.279
Speaker:
himself.
471
00:20:11.279 –> 00:20:15.119
Speaker:
That may explain why he was
hanging out in a bar on the
472
00:20:15.119 –> 00:20:19.640
Speaker:
sixth, acting like nothing was
wrong, because maybe he.
473
00:20:19.640 –> 00:20:24.000
Speaker:
Maybe he was in a phase where he
was thinking that the Theresa
474
00:20:24.000 –> 00:20:29.299
Speaker:
was going to come back, or this
was going to iron itself out
475
00:20:29.299 –> 00:20:29.960
Speaker:
because one of.
476
00:20:29.960 –> 00:20:34.599
Speaker:
One of the problems I have with
the murder suicide is the time
477
00:20:34.599 –> 00:20:38.599
Speaker:
difference between the murder
and the suicide.
478
00:20:38.599 –> 00:20:42.940
Speaker:
I did some looking into
statistics, and there really
479
00:20:42.940 –> 00:20:48.380
Speaker:
aren’t a lot of statistics on
the difference in time between
480
00:20:48.380 –> 00:20:49.180
Speaker:
the murder and the suicide.
481
00:20:49.180 –> 00:20:49.660
Speaker:
I was going to.
482
00:20:49.660 –> 00:20:51.859
Speaker:
I was trying to find out if it’s
483
00:20:51.859 –> 00:20:53.779
Speaker:
very common for murder suicides
484
00:20:53.779 –> 00:20:56.180
Speaker:
to take place with a week
485
00:20:56.180 –> 00:20:57.339
Speaker:
difference between the two
486
00:20:57.339 –> 00:20:58.259
Speaker:
dates.
487
00:20:58.259 –> 00:21:00.500
Speaker:
I usually you hear of a murder
suicide.
488
00:21:00.500 –> 00:21:02.420
Speaker:
It’s the same time.
489
00:21:02.420 –> 00:21:03.740
Speaker:
It’s a murder suicide.
490
00:21:03.740 –> 00:21:06.420
Speaker:
It’s it’s the same event.
491
00:21:06.420 –> 00:21:06.900
Speaker:
You don’t.
492
00:21:06.900 –> 00:21:10.140
Speaker:
People don’t normally wait a
week to kill themselves and, you
493
00:21:10.140 –> 00:21:14.259
Speaker:
know, go through their regular
lives for a whole week.
494
00:21:14.259 –> 00:21:17.500
Speaker:
Um, but I couldn’t find
statistics on to see how rare
495
00:21:17.500 –> 00:21:22.059
Speaker:
that actually was or if that’s
unusual, I thought that would be
496
00:21:22.059 –> 00:21:23.059
Speaker:
kind of helpful.
497
00:21:23.059 –> 00:21:28.400
Speaker:
It just seems kind of strange
that that he did wait a week
498
00:21:28.400 –> 00:21:32.099
Speaker:
and, you know, was eating out
and stuff like that.
499
00:21:32.099 –> 00:21:33.420
Speaker:
Um, didn’t mention anything
500
00:21:33.420 –> 00:21:36.019
Speaker:
about it to anybody or act weird
501
00:21:36.019 –> 00:21:37.660
Speaker:
to anybody.
502
00:21:37.660 –> 00:21:40.710
Speaker:
So we don’t know what happened
to Teresa Rideout?
503
00:21:40.710 –> 00:21:42.630
Speaker:
She’s still a missing person.
504
00:21:42.630 –> 00:21:44.670
Speaker:
She’s still listed on these
websites.
505
00:21:44.670 –> 00:21:49.109
Speaker:
The Indiana State Police website
on Namus.
506
00:21:49.109 –> 00:21:51.750
Speaker:
She still pops up on every once
507
00:21:51.750 –> 00:21:52.990
Speaker:
in a while, on a courier and
508
00:21:52.990 –> 00:21:54.509
Speaker:
press article about the cold
509
00:21:54.509 –> 00:21:57.109
Speaker:
case files with no new
510
00:21:57.109 –> 00:21:58.230
Speaker:
information.
511
00:21:59.269 –> 00:22:01.369
Speaker:
So I just I think that people
512
00:22:01.369 –> 00:22:03.230
Speaker:
deserve to have their stories
513
00:22:03.230 –> 00:22:04.589
Speaker:
told, even if they don’t have a
514
00:22:04.589 –> 00:22:07.289
Speaker:
massive family of hundreds of
515
00:22:07.289 –> 00:22:08.470
Speaker:
thousands of people out there
516
00:22:08.470 –> 00:22:10.269
Speaker:
looking and websites and
517
00:22:10.269 –> 00:22:11.509
Speaker:
Facebook pages and things like
518
00:22:11.509 –> 00:22:11.789
Speaker:
that.
519
00:22:11.789 –> 00:22:14.430
Speaker:
Teresa really didn’t have a, a
520
00:22:14.430 –> 00:22:16.950
Speaker:
wide circle of people and really
521
00:22:16.950 –> 00:22:19.069
Speaker:
not many of her friends that are
522
00:22:19.069 –> 00:22:20.890
Speaker:
even listed in those articles I
523
00:22:20.890 –> 00:22:22.309
Speaker:
referenced are even alive
524
00:22:22.309 –> 00:22:23.150
Speaker:
anymore.
525
00:22:24.190 –> 00:22:26.269
Speaker:
I know Carl Smith is not a
526
00:22:26.269 –> 00:22:28.470
Speaker:
living anymore and he was the
527
00:22:28.470 –> 00:22:30.390
Speaker:
closest friend.
528
00:22:30.390 –> 00:22:33.789
Speaker:
There just isn’t a network of
people out there even looking.
529
00:22:33.789 –> 00:22:36.589
Speaker:
But that doesn’t I don’t I think
that that short.
530
00:22:36.589 –> 00:22:37.829
Speaker:
I don’t think she deserved that.
531
00:22:37.829 –> 00:22:39.470
Speaker:
I think she deserves as much
532
00:22:39.470 –> 00:22:41.130
Speaker:
attention on her case as anyone
533
00:22:41.130 –> 00:22:43.349
Speaker:
else, so hopefully this
534
00:22:43.349 –> 00:22:45.369
Speaker:
particular episode will
535
00:22:45.369 –> 00:22:47.809
Speaker:
spotlight her disappearance and
536
00:22:47.809 –> 00:22:48.970
Speaker:
let everyone know that it’s just
537
00:22:48.970 –> 00:22:50.609
Speaker:
as important as anyone else
538
00:22:50.609 –> 00:22:52.130
Speaker:
who’s missing.
539
00:22:52.130 –> 00:22:53.369
Speaker:
And even if there are certain
540
00:22:53.369 –> 00:22:55.009
Speaker:
assumptions that have been made,
541
00:22:55.009 –> 00:22:57.049
Speaker:
that it’s still an unsolved
542
00:22:57.049 –> 00:22:59.690
Speaker:
case, that nobody really knows
543
00:22:59.690 –> 00:23:02.049
Speaker:
what happened and anything is
544
00:23:02.049 –> 00:23:02.970
Speaker:
possible.

Update: 6/11/2024. @bufordwilson on Discord shared the following article with a photo of Theresa “Terry” Rideout

Jack Barnett owned the house across the street from us between Chandler and Newburgh, (Maple Hgts Dr, Chandler). We did not move here until 1998 and when I found out what happened, I talked to a neighbor who was here in 1994. She said Jack and his then neighbor to the east were both into drugs–probably why he was divorced. She also stated an extensive search of our area was conducted by the police, but I thought she also told me they had found blood on a wall in a bedroom. Anyway, guess we may never know what happened to Theresa.
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. Yes, I’ve spoken with a few of Jack’s relatives since that episode and they also mentioned a bloody mattress. Jack’s brother told me that he drove the truck back to his house from the motel following Jack’s suicide. He said the truck was immaculate, which leads me to believe it was likely cleaned really well. Hopefully she’s found one of these days!
I found one more photo of Theresa in the Sept 15, 1994 Courier and Press article. I would attach it here, but I’m not finding an option to do that.
I just ran across your podcast and I’m in the middle of this episode now.

Thanks so much for listening to the podcast. I hope you enjoy it!

I used to o work with Terry, and a group of us would always get together and party., I remember when she went missing, and the night she was last seen we were all partying together and we were all pretty much drunk. Plenty of Jack Daniel’s. Anyway, I do remember Terry and Jack getting into a pretty heated argument. Jack was being mean. I bet he killed her that night.
I have often wondered about her through the years.
Linda Keerl-Lord.
Linda –
Thank you for sharing that information. Sadly, I think you’re probably right about Jack’s involvement in Terry’s disappearance. It’s just so strange that she (and her dog) were never found.
Terry Rideout was my sister. I was always under the impression that the police did not care about this case. They assumed Jack killed her and disposed of the body. To my knowledge, no forensic testing has ever been done. The police officer who talked to my aunt and I said that there was blood on the mattress.
Tardy,
I’m sorry more attention wasn’t given to your sister’s case. I hope she’s found one day so that her friends and family can have some peace.
Matt
